Back when the IMDB discussions board were still a thing, somebody brought up how Fahrenheit seemed to take more inspiration from Dark City than The Matrix.

After checking it out, I agree. Even in the premise, about a man who wakes up with amnesia and suspected of murder and is on the run from the police, with mysterious beings and reality bending shenanigans and an equally insane ending (it's great, I recommend checking it out).

Even later on with Detroit: Become Human you can see they took inspiration with the "save the fish" scene. It's a seemingly inconsequential little action but it's the first thing the protagonists do that sets up the question on the nature of humanity (with John Murdoch as a murderer and Connor as an android).

Anyways, fantastic film. Very noir. Has Jennifer Connelly. Check it out if you like the game.
